PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Background

Since the 1970s, agricultural machinery has significantly increased in size, enabling farmers to manage larger areas with fewer employees and produce food more efficiently. However, the substantial increase in the size and weight of these machines has also created challenges.



Challenge

One of the major issues in modern agriculture is the significant loss of global crop yield each year, due to soil compaction caused by heavy machinery. This problem, which affects about 70% of crop farming, leads to less productive soil and decreased crop yields. Due to soil compaction, farmers face an estimated harvest loss of up to 10% per year, equating to 10,2 billion euros lost in Europe alone.


Solution

Violet developed a solution that we call Compaction Prevention System (CPS). Powered by data from Planet, the system helps farmers predict soil compaction risk, guiding them in when to drive on their fields, and what vehicle, equipment, and tire/track combination to use.
